AUERBACH IN ISTANBUL (İstanbul 2010 Literature Project)This project aims at translating Mimesis: the Representation of Reality in Western Culture, a widely known criticism written by Eric Auerbach in 1940s. Distinguished scholars will take part in this project. In addition to the translation, a collective work covering the debates on the book and on its translation process is also planned to be published. For this project, which will be realized in collaboration with ÇEVBİR (Literary Translators Society) this masterpiece was selected for a reason. It was written by the renowned scholar when he was living in Istanbul. Subsequently, the project aims at highlighting Istanbul’s importance as a bridge between the East and the West. In addition to the workshops to be held to bring translators and experts together, an international symposium is going to be held with the attendance of reputable scholars. Edward Said’s article titled “Auerbach in Istanbul” will be the prologue of the work. Furthermore, articles by experts like Fatih Özgüven, Ahmet Cemal, Tahsin Yücel, Jale Parla, Roza Hakmen, Rekin Teksoy, Saffet Babür, Kaan H. Ökten and Ferda Keskin and the analyses by Levent Kavas, Zeynep Sayın and Can Alkor will take part in the collective work. The translation of the work will be realized by a board of renowned translators, including Cemal Ener, Çağlar Tanyeri, Şeyda Öztürk and Nafer Ermiş.
